Joint Media Release

ResBook has opened up a world of opportunity for the 800 smaller New Zealand hotels, boutique lodges and BnB’s which use its online reservation management system.
An integration with Airbnb means that Resbook users will benefit from a global audience of more than 200 million travellers. Airbnb is now the world’s largest and fastest growing hospitality provider and according to Deloitte, contributes about $660 million annually and 6000 jobs to the New Zealand economy alone.
Auckland-based company Tomahawk which owns ResBook, believes that the online integration will help users manage reservations more efficiently as Airbnb-generated bookings flow in.
“Property owners can now update their accommodation listing content details, pricing and availability in one place on ResBook with updates communicated instantly in real time on Airbnb.” said Director Gina Paladini.
Smaller tourism properties have modest marketing budgets according to Ms Paladini and struggle to cut through overseas.
“So when Airbnb approached us and said ‘let’s link our platforms and help mitigate a major marketing headache for New Zealand hosts by accessing our global network’ we quickly agreed. The integration also makes it easy for our users to manage any new specific AirBnB tax that a local council requires so admin tasks are simplified from this development too.”
Sam McDonagh, Country Manager for Airbnb Australia and New Zealand believes partnering with ResBook is a great step forward for small hospitality businesses in New Zealand.
"Boutique hotels and B&Bs have long used Airbnb, and now we’re building new tools and working with ResBook to help these local businesses thrive,” says Sam.
“We are dedicated to working with small hospitality businesses in New Zealand that excel at offering the best guest experiences and living our mission of belonging. We’re delighted to be working with ResBook."
Meanwhile, Tomahawk is delighted that ResBook, first developed in a cold and draughty Whitianga garage in 2003, will deliver the transformative benefits of Airbnb to local accommodation owners.
“Tourism is booming but the gains aren’t always evenly shared,” says Ms Paladini.
“We can’t wait to see the positive impact of this New Zealand-first integration on smaller properties throughout the country. You can’t get a better global catalyst than Airbnb.”
